Working with the Ottawa Food Bank
In 2010, the Ottawa Food Bank hired its first ever Community Harvest Co-ordinator, Jason Gray. Jason identified Roots and Shoots as an ideal place to trial the new community harvest program. Roots and Shoots is the first farm to collaborate with the Ottawa Food Bank through the Community Harvest program.
Due to the success of the trial at Roots and Shoots Jason has moved on from our farm to his own Food Bank Farm.
The Food Bank comes to the Ottawa farmer’s markets to pick up any unsold produce from vendors. We give a few boxes of food per week to this program and donate bulk storage crops to the food bank in the fall.
Roots and Shoots is proud to support the Parkdale Food Centre with donations throughout the summer. Karen and the team do an amazing job and we very much like working with them!
