The cost of food
Inflation is in the news every day, and it's hard to see how household budgets will make do on fixed incomes like they did in the past. And at times like this, local organic produce can seem like a luxury item that can be passed over. But consider this - despite rising costs in every aspect of our business, we only raised our prices 4% from last year. According to local grocery managers, the price of conventional produce is up 10-20% from last year, and organic will likely be higher still. While we don't know what the price of food will be in August, you know for sure that your CSA with Roots and Shoots cannot go up for the rest of the year. That's food security at its heart!
How else can we make it easier for you? - unlimited vacations!
For the first time this year, we are allowing unlimited vacations, so that you can keep your options open if you need to hit the road for the first time in 3 summers. As well, every vacation will be refunded to your account at its full rate. It can be used in the farm store (after the vacation date has passed) or for future subscriptions.
No more Paypal
Roots and Shoots now has its own online payment processor, which allows us to get rid of "Farmigo Credits". That means you have one balance, and that balance can be used immediately in the online farm store or for subscriptions. It will also be much easier to keep track of what you owe and when!
Other ways to get our veggies:
We are actively looking for hosts and locations for Wakefield, the Glebe, Westboro, and (possibly) Hull. Hosts get a full share for free in return for representing the farm at the pickup; and for being generally awesome.
We are also looking for a small team to help-out with our perennials and windbreaks. Contact us if you're interested in working once a week (or biweekly) doing things like weeding and mulching, in exchange for hourly credit towards veggies (CSA or Farmstore)
We know that the cost of living has become ridiculous. If the upfront cost of a CSA is prohibitive, we offer instalment plans to make it easier on your pocketbook.
Finally, if you really want a Roots and Shoots Farm share and feel it is not within reach, please send us an email and we will do what we can to get you signed up!

Signups have been slow for every CSA farm across the board. We know our customers are the best ambassadors a farm could have, but please continue to let people know what the Roots and Shoots experience is like. And if you have time, please leave us a google review or facebook review. Thank you!
