Whats in a share?

One of our shares from August, 2011.

Each week you will find a delicious variety of seasonal produce in your share. Every couple of weeks, new vegetables will show up in the share. As the season changes, some vegetables like radishes and spinach will disappear for the hot months. In general, the first few shares will be a little smaller, and the bounty will increase over the season, until you are getting potatoes, squash, melons, and other storage crops in the fall.

CSA exclusives

All of our produce we grow is earmarked first for CSA. That means if there is not enough of an item available for market, then its just for the CSA. Certain items are grown exclusively for the CSA, such as broccoli, watermelons, winter squash, garlic, and much of our herbs.

Share Value

We track the value of your shares each week, based on our market prices at the Ottawa Farmers’ Market. Because you are committing to buying a season’s worth of produce at the beginning of the season, we discount the price of the vegetables 20% from our market prices, for the full shares, and 10% for the half shares.

Quantity

We find that a full share is enough for a family of two adults and three children or two veggie loving, hungry adults. If you are intimidated by the prospect of consuming so many veggies, be assured that we will walk you through the season with recipes and tips on how to enjoy the great array of produce you will find in your box.

The half shares are simply a full share, delivered every second week. If you would like a half share every week, the best course is to buy a full share and split with a good friend or family member.

The Newsletter

Each week you’ll receive a newsletter from the farm, chock full of recent news, a recipe or (usually) two, and general cooking tips and guidelines. Sometimes Jess will even pull out her camera during lunch preparation and make a play by play meal prep with our lovely veggies!
