CSA = Community Supported Agriculture!

A June CSA share with the first tomatoes of the season!

What is CSA?

Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) is a wonderful way for community members to access local, in season produce while directly supporting farmers and the local economy. In the traditional model, CSA members and the farmers shared the risks of farming, including those driven by an increasingly unpredictable climate. In other words, a compromised harvest caused by drought did not put the farmer out of business and an abundant crop meant more value for the CSA member! Over the years, numerous CSA models have developed and eaters have more choice and more convenience than ever when it comes to where and how they source their food.

Why sign up for a Roots & Shoots CSA?

  • Choices: We increased the choices available so you can customize your box each week from the comfort of your home. Kale isn't your fav but you love herbs? Swap it out for cilantro or eggplant for tomatoes! It is easy and we are delighted to assist you in becoming comfortable using the online platform so you can adjust your share for your unique household.

  • Unlimited vacations! This means you can pause your order an unlimited amount of times at no cost.

  • Flexible payment options: We know the cost of living has become ridiculous. If the upfront cost of a CSA is prohibitive, we offer instalment plans to make it easier on your pocketbook. If you really want a share and feel it is not within reach, please send us an email and we will do what we can to get you signed up!

  • Add-on options available weekly: organic eggs, mushrooms from Le Coprin, and a greens share (with extra salad mix, spinach, arugula, etc.) Items from our online farm store are also available for add-ons, including local honey, granola, and maple syrup!

  • Eight drop-off locations so you won't have to travel far to pickup your veggies.

  • Three-season program (Summer, Fall, Winter) thanks to our electric greenhouses.

  • Weekly and bi-weekly options available

  • You'll be joining a wonderful community of folks who are passionate about local food. We have a private CSA Facebook group where folks shares recipe ideas and other related content.

Signups have been slow for every CSA farm across the board. We know our customers are the best ambassadors a farm could have, but please continue to let people know what the Roots and Shoots experience is like. And if you have time, please leave us a google review or facebook review. Thank you!

Could you please include dates for the various shares--summer, fall and winter--so I can compare it to our travel schedule? I don't know if I will be in Canada during the winter share for example.
