Vibrant fall food

The greenhouses are positively vibrating with all the photosynthesizing that is happening in there! Plus we have thousands of feet of greens and herbs in the field we are still harvesting from.
We're nearing the end of our growing season, which is a huge relief for this weary farm crew, but we still have weeks of harvest and washing ahead of us. Which is wonderful because it means we have an abundance of food still to come, with out having to think about irrigation, weeding, seeding and sunburning!
To be honest, this is one of my favourite times of years for harvesting and eating. The greens are tastier and the roots sweeter. Sure we don't have tomatoes anymore but I'm ready to embrace big salads and piles of roasted veg!
My favourite dinner is kale salad with roasted veg and a tahini lemon dressing.

While we have had the WORST luck with storage crops this year (drought and deer and geese have taken the majority of our carrots), our local farm friends have been more successful and we have bought in bulk from them!

ONE STOP SHOP!
We will also be selling local apples, granola, fish, meats, tempeh, dairy products and much more so you can get a lot of your grocery shopping done in one go!! A lot of our suppliers are small farmers whose products are not even available in grocery stores!
If you are interested in signing up for a fall share, we do indeed have some spots left in our biweekly group B, which starts November 4 & 5. You can log in to your account here: https://csa.farmigo.com/account/rootsandshootsfarm
IF YOU CAN'T add a share, shoots us an email and we can add one for you. If you want just one or two, add a half share and set your vacations!
We also have egift cards you can purchase : https://app.squareup.com/gift/QM3R83Y20ESVM/order
Boulangerie Marcel have started making pre-made frozen meals again. This week they have pork meatballs, vegan curried pumpkin soup and creamy cauliflower rigatoni! They will be available on Farmigo and also in our farmstore
Colleen is back and she whipped up some fresh sauerkraut that will be ready in about a month- look out for that! She is also planning on making more of her popular daikon "kimchi".
CREDIT
If you had a share with us this summer and have credit leftover, it will automatically get applied to a fall share.
We are implenting a small fee to transfer credit from one year to the next. Part of this is to clean up our accounts so our expenses match our income year to year.
So we hope you understand. If you have extenuating circumstances, we are compassionate folks and can make exceptions. You can also come to our farm store and ask for your credit in a gift card or apply it to a wreath workshop or buy some art prints!
But also, it is a small fee that will probably be covered by early bird discounts.
LOCATIONS:
We will have less dropoff points in the fall, but still have spots in the smae neighbourhoods- we just consolidate pickup points because we have less people picking up.
We will send an email to all fall share members confirming their pickup site and any instructions associated with said pickup site.
We are looking for a good indoor location in the parkdale area. If anyone knows of a space that could host 10-15 boxes for a couple of hours a week, in exchange for some vegetables, please let us know!
GOODBYE MATT!
We were lucky to have Matt work with us for 6 years! He started out as our delivery driver and transitioned to CSA coordinator, amongst other things!
He had an oppourtunity fall into his lap that was too good to pass up. We are sad to see. him go but excited to see what his new adventure has in store for him.
We also made a little newsletter summarizing the year. you can read it here
